The Brian Clarke Church of England Academy in Oldham was opened in 2023, and construction was captured by our time-lapse camera. The new school was built in the heart of Oldham town centre, on the site of a former Sainsbury’s supermarket off Booth Street, which had been demolished prior to construction work starting.
The new school is named after the artist Brian Clarke, a painter and stained-glass designer who was born in Oldham. The motto of the school is Luceat Lux Vestra, from Matthew 5:16: “let your light shine”.
The Brian Clarke CE Academy is an inclusive, co-educational, Church of England secondary school situated in the centre of the town of Oldham. The school has been founded to serve students of all faiths and denominations, as well as those of none. It aims to provide an excellent education to a student population that is aspirational, multi-cultural, multi-faith and multi-talented – a community that is a true microcosm of the Borough as a whole. The Academy is part of the Cranmer Education Trust, a schools’ trust based in Oldham but with schools throughout the Greater Manchester Area. Find out more about the Cranmer Education Trust here >
